WES 18 Wind Turbine

The WES 18, known as "the farmer's turbine", has the reputation of being durable and reliable. The two-bladed rotor has a unique hinge system and a passive blade-angle adjustment. This unique mechanism needs very little maintenance. Over 600 units have been installed at (agricultural) businesses, small communities and on coastal and mountainous sites. It's weight and size allow for easy installation at difficult and remote locations.
The WES 18 wind turbine is manufactured by Wind Energy Solutions (WES) in the Netherlands. WES turbines are sold, installed and maintained all over the world by a global network of certified and trained dealers. Horizon Renewables is an Official Distributor and a Certified Installer of WES wind turbines.

With the WES18 connected to your farm, business, school, golf club, resort or any other location, you can harvest the wind and generate your own green energy. This powerhouse can produce an average of 193,000kWh per year of reliable and renewable energy (depending on the wind availability). It takes little imagination to see the substantial dividends from payment schemes and the enormous reduction possible in your electricity bill!
The WES 18 is equipped with a state of the art control cabinet with IGBT converters and a maintenance friendly IPC interface. A user-friendly terminal is located on the control cabinet. The control system includes a dynamic output control assuring high power quality and low harmonics, as well as secure operation, even in weak grids. A Remote Monitoring System is also available so you can view the current and historical output from any internet computer or smartphone.

The WES 18 wind turbine is available as a Grid Connected system or Hybrid Wind/Diesel Generator system.
Download datasheet (pdf) Download full specifications (pdf)Grid Connection
In a Grid Connected system, the wind turbine is connected directly into to the building to supply the generated electricity to the property. The wind turbine control system works automonously and seemlessly with the electricity grid, exporting any surplus electricity onto the grid and importing additional electricity if the building requires more energy than the wind turbine is producing.
Hybrid Wind/Diesel Generator
The Hybrid Wind/Diesel Generator system is ideally suited remote locations or buildings that do not have a connection to the national grid, and instead rely on a diesel generator to supply electricity. In this type of system the wind turbine works alongside the diesel generator to supply clean electricity when there are sufficient winds. The WES control system integrates seemlessly with the diesel generator to ensure that the generator only supplies additional electricity if the building requires more energy than the wind turbine is producing.

Towers are galvanised steel and available in 30m and 50m. Towers are manufactured to be easily shipped on standard 40 foot lorries reducing site access difficulties. Access ladders are on outside of the 30m mast, and on the inside of the 50m mast. Lattice towers are also available.

Because PV systems are modular, the final cost of having one installed on your property depends on a number of factors; your preferred size of system, (or the limitations of your roof), your choice of photovoltaic technology, your exisiting roof material and structure, access to your site, to name a few.
Due to these factors we prefer to supply tailored quotations to our customers rather than show an example of our lowest priced system. We can assess your property and advise you on the most suitable and economical system for you. So give us a call or email us with your details and we'll provide you with a tailored final quotation, no hidden extras, no nasty surprises. We'll also calculate the ROI (Return On Investment) for your choosen system.
Investing in a PV System for your property will guarantee you an income for 20 years or more. You will also benefit from reduced electricity bills and add value to your property.
If you live in England, Wales or Scotland you can benefit from the Feed In Tariff (FIT). If you live in Northern Ireland you are entitled to a Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROC) for every 1000kWh of electricity you generate. Both incentive schemes have different payment structures which will influence the size of system that is the most economical for you. Visit our FIT / ROC page for more information.
You will also save on your electric bills by reducing your consumption of increasingly expensive grid electricity. Better yet, your electricity provider will credit you for exporting any excess electricity onto the grid. The amount you receive depends on your provider. See How Solar PV Works for more details on how a PV System will function in your property and with your electricity provider.
The two tables below illustrate a typical payback period for a Roof Mounted 4kW PV System. For more details go visit our FIT / ROC page.
